Does adding an extra layer of home window tint help?

I put a diy layer of window tint on my kitchen window which gets a direct hit all afternoon. 1 layer may (?) be helping a little bit, would putting another layer on - maybe on the outside - help a bit more?Does adding an extra layer of home window tint help?
in my bedroom the sun hits my windows all morning and the room get hott as hell in the summer.

what i did ?...i bought some white window film that people use in bathroom for privacy , still lets the light in but it reflects the sun

i did it on the upper halfs of the windows and it at least 10 degrees cooler in the room now.

But i think a better solution would be some awnings on the outsideDoes adding an extra layer of home window tint help?
If you have duo pane windows, be very careful!!! If the tint is too dark, it will cause the window to absorb too much heat and it can crack the glass. I would suggest a sun screen. That way you can remove the screen and replace it with the original one during the winter when you may want all the sunshine you can get. Good Luck!!
actually they sell this car tint that makes the window almost like amirror then add your dark tint
An awning would solve your problem better.
Help to what? Keep the heat out?

Yes.

But I would also suggest curtains.

How is the ozone layer broken down in the stratosphere?

How is the ozone layer broken down in the stratosphere?

10 points to someone who can give ma good answer that I can understand. How is the ozone layer broken down in the stratosphere?
The ozone layer is created when the solar winds collide with the earth's magnetic field. It is also called the Van Allan Belt. The atoms in the solar wind is all ionized because of the sun's heat. There are 2 parts . The beta particles that is attracted to the North pole and makes it negative. The other part is alfa particles and they are attracted to the south pole and makes it positive. . At the same time every year they form a particle gun that blows a hole in the ozone layer at the poles. Now back to the charges at the poles ,this voltage and current holds the O3 and stabilizes the ozone layer . There is a built in automatic repair system to repair the ozone layer. If the ozone layer gets thin it will let alfa particles to come through and bombard the Nitrogen which will trans mutate to oxygen which repairers the ozone layer. How is the ozone layer broken down in the stratosphere?
green house gases thin the ozone layer. this causes more of the sun to shine through which is y we have global warming

  • How to use a layer 3 switch and a firewall?

I have a layer 3 Cisco switch. I've made 10 VLANs with different IP address range and I want each VLAN users to be controlled by a firewall when they want to communicate with users in other VLANs. But my Cisco switch layer 3 module simply routes all packets to their destinations because it recognizes them all as connected subnets.

How can I prevent this? I want all packets have to go to firewall and then firewall decides if packet is permitted or denied accessing other VLAN.How to use a layer 3 switch and a firewall?
If they are all in the same switch, this is nearly impossible unless it's a Catalyst 6500 with a firewall blade. But I'm betting you're dealing with a 3750 or something similar.

You might be able to assign a next hop using policy based routing, but I've never tried this. Not sure if it would work or not. But that's the only way I can think of to get them through an external firewall.

You could set up access lists and apply them to the individual VLAN interfaces on the switch. It isn't stateful, but it might get you where you need to go.How to use a layer 3 switch and a firewall?

How do you handle flashing when putting on a second layer?

I've put on roofs before, but I've never put on a second layer of shingles. Now that I am, what do I do about flashing? Do I put on a second flashing layer? Do I replace the old flashing? Do I just leave the flashing as it is?

Any help greatly appreciated! How do you handle flashing when putting on a second layer?
To the best of my knowledge you just lay the new shingles on and go for it. If the flashing is Steel you would need to put on another flashing over the old and shingle as usual.

What is a good layer for inbetween gravel and sand for a fish tank?

Ive heard of a gravel mesh where can i find them? or what would make a good gravel mesh? What is a good layer for inbetween gravel and sand for a fish tank?
Why are you mixing gravel and sand? Dolomite /crushed coral or sand, you really don't need both unless you are going for a specific look. You can buy nylon netting (in various colors from Walmart or fabric store. They do sell the clear at pet stores or you can use a divider designed for the separaton of gravel colors at a good/larger LFS.

When putting a second layer of shingles on a roof will i have to worry about hitting the nails below?

thanks wired for the useful info. before. When putting a second layer of shingles on a roof will i have to worry about hitting the nails below?
You won't need to worry about it. Occasionally you'll hit one and you'll need to move over a fraction of an inch. When putting a second layer of shingles on a roof will i have to worry about hitting the nails below?
If you start your new shingles a little lower than the old ones you should have no problems.
I would recommend a complete tear off of old roof so that you can inspect for bad wood and to install ice %26amp; water shield at all eves %26amp; valleys to insure you do not have ice damming in the future (If you live in a area that gets a lot of snow.)%26amp; another good reason for this is sometimes nails in the older shingles work their way up %26amp; can cause damage to your new roof. Also the more layers of shingles you add is just more weight added to your roof.
As a roofing contractor I don't recommend doing a second layer all your doing is covering up problems down the road but if your looking for a cheaper way I would recommend a Tamko dimensional their made to but and run right the 3 tab shingle you can get them at most roofing store home depot or Lowe's would have to order them
I strongly advise you to pull that first roof off.

Placing a new layer of shingles over the current ones is no assurance that you'll stop any leaks.

The felt under the current shingles is at least as old as the shingles, and any walking on the roof on top of nailing down a new layer will just increase the odds that you'll be doing this shortly.

Bite the bullet and do the job correctly. You'll be much happier with the results.

  • If I put a layer of soil over a garden path could I grow annuals in it?

I'm thinking of doing this next year. The soil would be about 4 or 5 inches deep.If I put a layer of soil over a garden path could I grow annuals in it?
Yes you can. Most plastic window troughs are less than 5'; so you should be Ok. If you use soil then it would be advisable to either incorporate some grow bags or better still some composted bark. This helps to improve moisture retention. Mix it in well with the soil and you should have a marvelous garden. But there is no need to wait until next year. Plant some Winter Pansies, Primrose and bulbs and brighten up your winter.

If you would like something a little more permanent then give Alpines a go. Start off with a few in between your annuals and if successful fill up the bed.

Hope this has helped you. Take some photos and post them in Answers next year.If I put a layer of soil over a garden path could I grow annuals in it?
By garden path, are you talking concrete? Yes, I believe you could grow annuals there, so song as you keep it well watered. I drove by last week especially to look at a cedar tree that my dad planted in 1950. My mother had contracted the job at a new school, and the contract called for the tree to be planted there. He dug down about a foot and found an old concrete sidewalk. So he planted the tree on top of it. The tree is huge and beautiful. I have a garden path made up of separate stones laid over black weed cloth. I fight not only weeds but good stuff growing between the stones, that don't want to grow in the flower beds. Gravel? Take a look at my driveway. Mulch and wood chips don't seem to mean a thing. If you build it, they will come.

My part of the world is semi-desert, with red clay underneath.
It would be less work but in the long run it may be better if you took up the path or at least break it up a bit, then you could plant what you like. Another thing, while you're at it you could make it more than 5'; deep, not so far to bend when weeding. Stone is expensive but old sleepers or tanalised wooden rail would look good with alpines dangling over the sides.
Yes you can grow any plant in soil but did you want to completely cover the garden path or in the cracks between.?
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. As long as you water and fertilise regularly.
Do you intend this to be a permanent feature? If so and you do not want to break up the path then would it be possible to create a raised bed? This can be done very easily and inexpensively by using scaffolding boards for the edging.

Otherwise assuming that the path area has good drainage then annuals will do very well in a soil depth of 4 to 5 inches as they do not have extensive root systems.

You could even grow a mixed leaf salad crop. Just think how much you pay for a bag of salad leaves in the supermarket!
The shallow soil and possible lack of drainage could limit the type of plants to be grown Need to be shallow rooted. Would be better if you could break the path up,

I use synthetic ice. It's a more expensive material but it works great. Just look it up on google and dig around for good prices on it, I don't think it's available at stores. What is the best material to use on the top layer of a snowboard box?
HDPE ( High Density Polyethylene) This is what they use at resorts. Your board won't stick. I haven't found a place that isn't online though. But what you'll want to do is trim the edges with a thin steel strip, so your board won't catch.

When you make brownies how do you get the flaky layer on top?

when ever other people make brownies their is this flaky layer but when i make them the top is like the part on the inside and not the layer....how do you get the layer on it?When you make brownies how do you get the flaky layer on top?
I love that flaky layer too! You have to bake the brownies for about 15-20 minutes longer than you normally would. When you make brownies how do you get the flaky layer on top?
Food 'science' is what works here. Please try whipping up your eggs and sugar before adding your other ingredients. IF you bake your brownies 15-20 minutes longer then you are supposed to all you will have is a hockey-puck, over cooked, and burnt chocolate tasting deformity. Yuk. Report Abuse

If you are making them from scratch beating the eggs with sugar until VERY fluffy (before adding the butter, chocolate, and flour) will help give you a nice sugary and almost crisp top to your brownies.
To get the flaky layer on top, which I adore, you have to back the brownies in the oven for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you can take it out and look at it. If the flakes are on top, then eat away. If the flakes aren't on top then the ingredients, process, or what ever was not completed properly.
I don't know if you are baking from scratch, or a mix, but when I bake mine from scratch, I bake them for about 30 to 40 minutes. This always produces a flaky layer.
1.Sprinkle a pinch of magic fairy dust on the brownies

2.Crunch up some hobbit bread, mix it with mystic stream water

3.Say Gondour's prayer on the hobbit bread

    4.Throw the hobbit bread away

5.Dust off the magic fairy dust, eat the dust

What happens to the planet when the hole in ozone layer is as big as the earth?

Will there be any form of survival for humans and living things on the planet earth? Can gaseous emissions be stopped? What happens to the planet when the hole in ozone layer is as big as the earth?
the ozone layer prevents harmful UVc and lower wavelengths of UVb radiation from reaching the Earth. If these radiation wavelengths reach the Earth, it will decompose DNA as it is sensitive to reactions at those particular energies. So, our skins would become highly melanomic as would the exposed tissues of all life on Earth. Nothing would survive, except perhaps deep underwater/underground bacteria or other life. What happens to the planet when the hole in ozone layer is as big as the earth?

    we will all die !!!!!!!!
We're all going to be fried!
This so called hole is the result of the earths magnetic field it moves the ionised O3 ozone. It has always been the case and will not totally disappear.the ozone is being made constantly by the worlds oceans.
I guess we all burn up. Depends on how long a timescale it takes for this to happen. I expect scientists are busily working on this and will come up with an answer in time.
isnt gonna happen sister, by the time it gets so big, as the uv rays burn us all to a crisp, n were all dead n gone, the earth will heal herself, and start all over again, with hopefully a more inteligent specie than MAN!!
The world will become a great big frying pan ~ and us the little sausages
Some very bad things will happen and things won't be alright. But it will be okay.

    Bye, V. F Vague xx
We will have to wear protective clothing, but only god knows if we will survive such a disaster, what will happen to earth is best not to think about.
    We all fry.
    I'm still banking on Superman!
the ozone is the earths protective shield from the deadly rays of the sun such as uv as u know , without the shield the earth and all of its inhabitants will cease to exist...

the ones with the most money make the rules and if they do what is good/right for the planet and people it will lessen their profits, they dont care about nothing but themselves and their money, but ask them this, where will their money be of any use without a planet or any people, their nothing but a bunch of greedy bastards. money rules the world not compassion and ethics. mankind will be its own demise, bet on it.
an even longer hose pipe ban
We wont live to notice. We would all bake like a peach in the microwave wayyyy before the ozone depleted that far.

On the other hand, what scientists dont like to say, is that the earth has the ability to revitalize itself, and that includes the Ozone, as well as its electromagnetic shielding. (that protects us from most of the hardened radiation that comes from the sun)
the hole in the ozone layer isn't actually a hole its just where the ozone is thinner than the rest due to the pollution in the world. it just means that it is warmer than it is usually.

don't worry, it won't happen for a few more years.
We will get sucked up into it and it will turn out to be a lovely place and we will live there happily ....or maybe that was just a dream i had ..lol
    no more life on earth
We become the 2nd red planet, like Mars.
    It wont happen.

Ozone depletion is a spingtime occurance. When it is spring in the southern hemisphere, it is autumn in the northern.

So it is impossible for it to happen totally.
the so called 'hole' is actually getting smaller, but whether it will continue to get smaller is another matter. i'm not going into too much detail but the fact that the earth is still coming out of the last ice age (10,000 years ago) means the planet is still warming up after it, so don't worry too much about so-called global warming. it's just scare-mongering by tree huggers.

Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?

I layer blanket my horses but I'm in just interested in other peoples opinions. Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?
The denier of a blanket refers to the tightness of the weave of the nylon outer shell on the blanket.

You could blanket with one with a higher fill count. They are thicker and heavier and provide more insulation.

However layering the blankets works really well. You can make your first layer an absorbent one to wick the moisture away from the skin and then something waterproof over that. It would also provide great insulation between the blankets.

If your horse does not mind the double layer I would stick to that if it works well for you.

Sometimes mine tend to get to hot in the heavy balnkets and sweat and I think something lighter would be better. Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?
I always thought that it was better to layer blankets rather than just having one heavy one on. That way, you can take layers off in responsive to temperature fluctuations. Also, the air betweent he layers stays warmer allowing for the horse to stay warmer. Also, if the top layer gets wet or really dirty, you can just remove the one and clean/dry it and the horse still has some protection. Just my humble opinion!

What is one thing that makes each atmospheric layer unique in comparison to the other layers?

Exosphere - has free-moving particles that may migrate into and out of the magnetosphere or the solar wind.

Ionosphere - influences radio propagation to distant places on the Earth

Thermosphere - has temperature increasing with height

Mesosphere - where most meteors burn up when entering the atmosphere

Stratosphere - contains the ozone layer

Troposphere - the lowest layer of the atmosphere; contains roughly 80% of the total mass of the atmosphere

The temperature of the Earth's atmosphere varies with altitude; the mathematical relationship between temperature and altitude varies among five different atmospheric layers (ordered highest to lowest, the ionosphere is part of the thermosphere):

Exosphere: from 500 – 1000 km (300 – 600 mi) up to 10,000 km (6,000 mi), free-moving particles that may migrate into and out of the magnetosphere or the solar wind.

    exobase boundary

Ionosphere: is the part of the atmosphere that is ionized by solar radiation. It plays an important part in atmospheric electricity and forms the inner edge of the magnetosphere. It has practical importance because, among other functions, it influences radio propagation to distant places on the Earth. It is located in the thermosphere and is responsible for auroras.

    thermopause boundary

    Thermosphere: from 80 – 85 km (265,000 – 285,000 ft) to 640+ km (400+ mi), temperature increasing with height.

    mesopause boundary

Mesosphere: From the Greek word ';μέσος'; meaning middle. The mesosphere extends from about 50 km (160,000 ft) to the range of 80 to 85 km (265,000 – 285,000 ft), temperature decreasing with height. This is also where most meteors burn up when entering the atmosphere.

    stratopause boundary

Stratosphere: From the Latin word ';stratus'; meaning a spreading out. The stratosphere extends from the troposphere's 7 to 17 km (23,000 – 60,000 ft) range to about 50 km (160,000 ft). Temperature increases with height. The stratosphere contains the ozone layer, the part of the Earth's atmosphere which contains relatively high concentrations of ozone. ';Relatively high'; means a few parts per million—much higher than the concentrations in the lower atmosphere but still small compared to the main components of the atmosphere. It is mainly located in the lower portion of the stratosphere from approximately 15 to 35 km (50,000 – 115,000 ft) above Earth's surface, though the thickness varies seasonally and geographically.

    tropopause boundary

Troposphere: From the Greek word ';τρέπω'; meaning to turn or change. The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere; it begins at the surface and extends to between 7 km (23,000 ft) at the poles and 17 km (60,000 ft) at the equator, with some variation due to weather factors. The troposphere has a great deal of vertical mixing due to solar heating at the surface. This heating warms air masses, which makes them less dense so they rise. When an air mass rises the pressure upon it decreases so it expands, doing work against the opposing pressure of the surrounding air. To do work is to expend energy, so the temperature of the air mass decreases. As the temperature decreases, water vapor in the air mass may condense or solidify, releasing latent heat that further uplifts the air mass. This process determines the maximum rate of decline of temperature with height, called the adiabatic lapse rate. It contains roughly 80% of the total mass of the atmosphere. 50% of the total mass of the atmosphere is located in the lower 5 km of the troposphere.

The average temperature of the atmosphere at the surface of Earth is 15 °C (59 °F).What is one thing that makes each atmospheric layer unique in comparison to the other layers?
Troposphere(8-16Km):90% of the weather happens in this layer as almost most of the moisture content(water vapour) is found here only.

Stratosphere (between tropopause and 50 km):-The ozone layer which absorbs the harmful ultra violet rays of the sunlight is found here.

Mesoshere(50 -80 km):- The coldest temperature of the atmosphere is found at the top of this layer.Meteors entering the earth are burnt here.

Thermosphere(80 - 600 km):-This layer contains a region called ionosphere where atoms and molecules become electrically charged (ionised) by solar radiation which generates heat. Some radio transmissions from earth are reflected back as the famous radio-reflecting layers known as Heavyside and Appleton layers are found in this layer.

Exosphere (above 600 km):- This is the outermost layer of the atmosphere where the temperature increases continuously and hence the highest temperture of the atmosphere is found here.Lack of gravity in this layer allows gases to escape into space. What is one thing that makes each atmospheric layer unique in comparison to the other layers?
Different gasses make up each layer. They also have different lapse rates, which defines the rate of change in temperature with height.

What happens when you layer a lower spf on top of a higher spf?

For example... put on sunscreen with spf 50 then put on suntan oil with spf 4? i know it reverses the point. i want to get a tan but not burned. What happens when you layer a lower spf on top of a higher spf?
tanning IS burning, just to a lesser degree, and it dries out the skin and makes you look way older before your time, why would you want to look forty when you are only thirty?

As for layering spf lotions.....no, you will not tan, the higher spf functions regardless, and spf 50 still only gives you thirty minutes in the sun before damage sets in.What happens when you layer a lower spf on top of a higher spf?
Nothing different happens.. you can't add the two together and get a higher SPF. Just stick with the 50 and you'll be fine..but add it thick and every few hours. Any sun is damaging to the skin...though we need sun for health, (vit D) and frankly the sun just makes us feel better..but to much is not good.. use the tan in the can or tube.. it works great.. or get a spray on tan.. don't use tanning beds.

How did scientists realized the existense of the ozone layer?

Has the invention of the airplanes played a part on it?How did scientists realized the existense of the ozone layer?
The photochemical mechanisms that give rise to the ozone layer were worked out by the British physicist Sidney Chapman in 1930. Ozone in the earth's stratosphere is created by ultraviolet light striking oxygen molecules containing two oxygen atoms (O2), splitting them into individual oxygen atoms (atomic oxygen); the atomic oxygen then combines with unbroken O2 to create ozone, O3. The ozone molecule is also unstable (although, in the stratosphere, long-lived) and when ultraviolet light hits ozone it splits into a molecule of O2 and an atom of atomic oxygen, a continuing process called the ozone-oxygen cycle, thus creating an ozone layer in the stratosphere, the region from about 10 to 50 km (32,000 to 164,000 feet) above Earth's surface. About 90% of the ozone in our atmosphere is contained in the stratosphere. Ozone concentrations are greatest between about 20 and 40 km, where they range from about 2 to 8 parts per million. If all of the ozone were compressed to the pressure of the air at sea level, it would be only a few millimeters thick.

Ten percent of the ozone in the atmosphere is contained in the troposphere, the lowest part of our atmosphere where all of our weather takes place. Tropospheric ozone has two sources: about 10 % is transported down from the stratosphere while the remainder is created in smaller amounts through different mechanisms.

    hope u pick me...

tY!How did scientists realized the existense of the ozone layer?
Many say that once we punctured the atmosphere with spaceships the ozone began to dissappear. I am not sure how scientists discovered that it exists or that it is shrinking.

Towels on very bottom so you can roll it up. Next goes the newspaper. Then the CareFresh. You could also put fleece in substatute for the CareFresh in one little place to see what your cavies like best. How do I layer Carefresh and towels and newspaper in my guineapig cage?

    Coconut Cake Recipe

    Recipe Summary

    Difficulty: Easy

    Prep Time: 30 minutes

    Cook Time: 25 minutes

    Yield: 1 (3-layer) cake

    Cake:

Basic 1-2-3-4 Cake but substitute 1 cup canned, unsweetened coconut milk for regular milk, recipe follows

    Filling

    3/4 cup sugar

    1 cup sour cream

    4 tablespoons milk

    1/2 cup flaked, sweetened coconut

    Frosting

    1 recipe 7-minute Frosting

    Flaked, sweetened coconut, for sprinkling

Follow directions for Basic 1-2-3-4 Cake, substituting coconut milk for regular milk. While cake is baking, prepare filling. Stir together sugar, sour cream, milk, and coconut in a bowl until well blended. Remove cake layers from oven and allow cake to remain in pans as you prepare to stack and fill. Remove first layer and invert onto cake plate. Using the wrong end of a wooden spoon, poke holes approximately 1-inch apart until entire cake has been poked. Spread 1/3 of filling mixture on cake layer. Top with second layer, repeat process. Top with last layer and repeat process again. (As I stack layers together I stick them with toothpicks to prevent cake from shifting).

Prepare 7-Minute Frosting. Frost top and sides of cake. Sprinkle top and sides of cakes with additional coconut.

    Basic 1-2-3-4 Cake:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, at room temperature

    2 cups sugar

    4 eggs

    3 cups sifted self-rising flour

    1 cup milk

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease and flour 3 (9-inch) cake pans. Using an electric mixer, cream butter until fluffy. Add sugar and continue to cream well for 6 to 8 minutes. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and milk alternately to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla and continue to beat until just mixed. Divide batter equally among prepared pans. Level batter in each pan by holding pan 3 or 4 inches above counter, then dropping it flat onto counter. Do this several times to release air bubbles and assure you of a more level cake. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Cool in pans 5 to 10 minutes. Invert cakes onto cooling racks. Cool completely and spread cake layers with your favorite frosting to make a 3-layer cake.

    7-Minute Frosting:

    1/8 teaspoon salt

    1/3 cup water

    2 egg whites

1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Place sugar, cream of tartar or corn syrup, salt, water, and egg whites in the top of a double boiler. Beat with a handheld electric mixer for 1 minute. Place pan over boiling water, being sure that boiling water does not touch the bottom of the top pan. (If this happens, it could cause your frosting to become grainy). Beat constantly on high speed with electric mixer for 7 minutes. Beat in vanilla.

    Mandarin Orange Cake

1 box Duncan Hines yellow cake mix

    陆 c. of sugar

    戮 c. of Wesson Oil

1 small can of mandarin oranges with juice

    4 eggs

Mix ingredients and pour into 3 greased and floured 9 inch round layer cake pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

    ICING:

2 pkgs of instant vanilla pudding

1 large container of Cool Whip

1 large can of crushed pineapple.

Combine ingredients and spread on layers, top and sides. Refrigerate.
take an angel food cake and top with a lemon glaze. glaze is 1 cup powder sugar and juice of 1 lemon

i prefer to take the angel food cake or pound, cut it into thirds, and layer a mixture of cool whip mixed with strawberries and blueberries, then spread cool whip over the whole thing once assembled again.
    Rainbow Sorbet Cake

    Serves 10

You can use any sorbet flavors in this layer cake; we chose these for the combination of flavors and colors. Make the five meringue disks (Steps one through five) up to five days ahead, and store them in an airtight container until you鈥檙e ready to assemble the cake.

    1 1/2 cups sugar

    6 large egg whites

    2/3 pint mango sorbet

    2/3 pint grapefruit sorbet

    2/3 pint raspberry sorbet

    2/3 pint green apple sorbet

    1. Heat oven to 185掳. Cut a 7-inch circle from a 10-inch square of 1/4-inch-thick cardboard or Foamcore. Set circle aside to use for bottom of cake, and reserve the cut-out square as a template. Cut three 11-by-17-inch rectangles out of parchment paper, and set parchment aside.

    2. Fill a medium saucepan with 2 inches of water, and bring to a simmer. Place sugar and egg whites in the bowl of an electric mixer. Hold bowl over simmering water, and whisk until warm to the touch and sugar has dissolved, about 3 minutes.

    3. Using the whisk attachment, beat egg whites on medium speed until stiff and glossy, about 4 minutes; do not overbeat.

    4. Place the template over one end of a piece of parchment. Scoop 1 cup egg-white mixture into the center. Using an offset spatula, spread the mixture into an even layer. Remove the template. Make another disk on other end of parchment. Create three more disks on remaining two pieces of parchment. Slide each piece of parchment onto a 11-by-17-inch baking sheet.

    5. Transfer the meringue disks to the oven, and bake 1 1/2 hours, making sure they don鈥檛 brown. Turn off heat, and let the disks dry completely in oven, 6 hours to overnight.

    6. Place one meringue disk on the reserved 7-inch cake round. Using a gelato paddle or a large spoon, build up an even layer of mango sorbet on top of the disk. Top with a second meringue disk. Continue the layering process, returning cake to the freezer to harden, as needed. Use remaining grapefruit, raspberry, and green-apple sorbets and the meringue disks. Top with a disk. Transfer cake to freezer, and freeze until hardened. Let soften slightly before serving. Serve with a spoon in bowls.

    1 tablespoon orange marmalade

    Frosting:

    1/4 cup orange juice concentrate

    1-1/2 tablespoons powdered gelatin

    1 teaspoon orange marmalade

    2 cups whipping cream

1 cup custard cream or prepared vanilla pudding

2 teaspoons vanilla extract or Grand Marnier liqueur

    Syrup

    1-1/2 cups sugar

    1 cup water

    2 tablespoons Grand Marnier

    Topping

    1 cup orange juice

    1/4 cup sugar

    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    1/4 cup water

    1 ounce arrowroot or cornstarch

To make cake: Prepare batter following directions, then stir in marmalade. Bake in 2 round 9-inch pans, according to package directions. Cool 1 hour.

To make frosting: Combine orange juice concentrate, gelatin and marmalade in a small saucepan. Heat until melted. Cool. Whip cream until it forms soft peaks. Combine with custard or pudding. Fold in orange gelatin mixture and vanilla or liqueur.

To make syrup: Bring sugar and water to a boil. Cool, then add liqueur. To make topping: Combine juice, sugar and vanilla; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and slowly stir in arrowroot or cornstarch. Return to a boil, then allow to cool.

Assembly: Brush bottom layer of cake with syrup, then top with half the frosting. Place second layer of cake on top. Brush more syrup on the top layer, then cover the sides and top of the entire cake with frosting. Spread topping over the top of the cake.

Refrigerate 2-3 hours before serving. Serves 12.

How do you make something appear on only one layer in Photoshop?

Sorry about the badly worded title.

Anyway, say you have a sticker or a circle on a layer on top of a background in Photoshop. How can I draw something no with the brush, but only make it appear on the circle and not the background? If you get what I mean.

Thanks in advance. How do you make something appear on only one layer in Photoshop?
Select the layer that the circle is on. In your Layers panel, you will see four buttons at the top where it says 'Lock.' The first is 'Lock Transparent Pixels'. Select this and you will see a little lock appear on your circle layer. Use the brush tool, and voila! The brush appears only on the circle.

If you want to unlock it so that you can brush outside the circle, just click that button again. How do you make something appear on only one layer in Photoshop?

I'm builing a beer pong board (sweet, I know!) and I want to apply a printed out logo underneath the layer of polyurethane that will be applied as the top layer. I have the logo on my computer, but I need to know what the best material to print it out on is, and the best way to adhere it to the board before sealing it in. Thanks! How do you apply a printed logo underneath a layer of polyurethane?
I did a similar project, and what I did was printed it out, then transferred, by tracing it to my surface and then painted it free hand. Let dry in good shape, 2nd coat and let it dry overnight. Then applied my urethane, several coats of that as well. I did this on some stair treads and it is holding up quit well under a lot of use. If it's a logo that you can't trace then the material would have to be something other than paper because it won't hold up to the urethane.

Good Luck %26amp; don't loose (too much) Hope this helpedHow do you apply a printed logo underneath a layer of polyurethane?
You need to find a surface to print on that won't be damaged by or discolored by the polyurethane. I would go to a print shop (or a place that also does printing, like a stamp store, a trophy store, or a T-shirt store) and see what they recommend. If you don't need it in color, another option would be to print it on vinyl.
You are building a beer pong board?Do you have photo paper for your printer?use a couple small strips of double stick tape to hold the logo in place while you put the polyurethane on.

What are good tips for getting rid of the layer of fat around my tummy?

i am 14 years old, 153cm and i am quite chubby.

i have been trying to get rid of my tummy fats by doing crunches, but they would only make my abs grow harder, and wont lose the fats. any advise? What are good tips for getting rid of the layer of fat around my tummy?
You have to get some good cardio going. Aerobic exercise...jogging, dancing, whatever makes you feel good and get your heart rate up for a while. Plus you'll probably need to look at what youre consuming also...several small means are better than a couple big ones. Last tip...lots and lots of water. Everything in moderation so take it easy because slow and steady will keep the wieght off. What are good tips for getting rid of the layer of fat around my tummy?
Being an Air Force pilot, fat around the stomach tends to be an ';enemy';, from sitting so much while flying. We do an exercise that helps to reduce stomach fat: While sitting or standing in a relatively straight posture, pull your stomach in as far as possible. Do not hold your breath. Start by holding it in for 15-20 seconds, then relax. Do this several times a day, slowly increasing the time that you hold the stomach in. If you don't give up, in less than a week, you will notice an increase in your ';stomach in'; time and a decrease in your waist line.
you really can't target just one part of your body for fat loss. the crunches have added muscle to your abs, but only regular aerobic (cardio) exercise will help you burn fat. my weight

yo-yoed my entire life until i figured this out. i lost 70 lbs. and have kept it off for 5 years. at 14, don't diet, just eat healthy, and do something to raise your heart rate for 20 minutes at least 3 times a week. you'll feel better physically and mentally. now, go!
diet and exercise. there is no such thing as spot reducing. with proper diet and exercise you'll notice a difference everywhere, not just around your mid -section.
do sit ups everyday! 100 sit ups!

Is the ozone layer actually capable of repairing itself?

Is it possible for the ozone layer to repair itself if given a chance to? Or now that the damage has been done it can't be reversed? Is the ozone layer actually capable of repairing itself?
that is not the deal, because the ozone layer depends on the cosmic wind, and its development is not really known. the use of certain substances could damage it, but ';repairing'; is a human point of view. you may ask if it will have the right thickness to permit human lifeIs the ozone layer actually capable of repairing itself?
according to the site provided - if we lay off harmful chemicals and slow down on the use of things that produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide etc etc it is possible... take for example the use of CFC. Many countries have banned the use of CFC and it showed evidence of the ozone damage slowing.

Of course it would take awhile to repair itself
yeah. if we gave it a break it possibly could, but i highly doubt that it will because of the pollution and stuff we make daily. our lives pretty much depend on using machines that make pollution.
yes, but it takes a long time, and with all the cars today, it is doing damage, but certain people try to reduce what goes into the air
Yes the Ozone layer will repair itself if we ever stop using Chlorine Gas.

Enough chlorine gets up to the Ozone layer to cause a bigger Ozone hole each year.

How do I layer a transparent GIF over an Image in Dreamweaver CS4?

    Hi There,

I have tried using AP divs to layer the images and this works fine except when the website is previewed and the browser window is resized, the top image is fixed on the page and does not move with the other elements.

I tried changing the AP div position to ';static'; but that won't allow me to layer it.

Please Help! Many ThanksHow do I layer a transparent GIF over an Image in Dreamweaver CS4?
An example would help here but I still got some insight on the problem.

You've already noticed the problem with using AP divs, but its not totally fair to say its a problem. AP div's are great tools for a website the only draw back is that AP divs don't mix well with normal divs and tables.

I don't know exactly what your doing here but the only good solution that I see is to make the the entire site AP divs. Now thats alot of work so maybe you can still use your tables but in the end your going to have to ';nest'; these AP divs.

For an example, the picture you want to cover is placed inside div1, div1 is nested inside a div with an id or container. Because its nested inside this container it uses it as its boundry not the browser like you were running into. Now all you need to do is put your trancperacy in something like div2 and position it over the other div. Just give it the same coordinats (left, right, top ect...).

To do this create a new AP div and call it container, then you need to do a hidden step that dreamweaver kinda hides. You need to go to EDIT %26gt; PREFERENCES %26gt; AP ELEMENTS and then check the NEST when created within an AP div checkbox. Now any AP div you drag and create inside this container div uses its boundrys not the browsers.

Here is the code for my container, don't use it because it won't allow nesting unless you make it your self but look at it for help...

    #container {

    height: 1200px;

    width: 750px;

    margin-right: auto;

    margin-left: auto;

    background-color: #FFF;

    position: relative;

    text-align: left;

NOTICE that the AP div is positioned relative with a right and left margin of auto. All of these combined makes the div center itself in the browsers window. NOW all the AP divs that are put inside here will have a position of absolute.

  • What would happen if a jet flew in a layer other than the stratosphere?

There would be over 100 alerms gooding off to tell pilot to fly down and if hes deth then you would proble get those little mask breath things that pop down and it would stallWhat would happen if a jet flew in a layer other than the stratosphere?
Servince ceilings are the top alititude an aricraft can fly. The engines is what limits an aircrafts service ceiling. As said before basically you have engine failure. Small aircraft using recipricating engines with regular float cards have lower service ceilings. As you go up in altititude the air thins out. You need specific amount of air to fuel called the air fuel mixure or A/F ratio. So the small float carb engine can only support combustion until it reaches an altitude where the air is thin enough to throw off the a/f ration to where it wont burn. Now add a supercharger or turbo charger and you are getting the thin air pressurized and are able to operate at higher altitudes. In fact many super and turbo chargers boost the pressure to the same as at sea level. Now moving on to Jet engines which can compress a lot more air than reciprocating engines and you have the most ideal engine for high altitude flight. Of course it suffers the same problems once it gets even further up to where the air is very very thin. Eventually it's A/F ratio will no longer support combustion and the engine will fail. Now moving on the rocket engines. These provide all the needs for combustion and can operate in space with zero air.
would stall if jet flies too high due to lack of oxygen and would deprive the engine of oxygen to burn fuel and cut off fuel supply to engine. jet would stall and fall back down to lower altitude.

Why is Thin Layer Chromotography a better technique to analyze the separated compolunds than melting points?

This is for an o-chem lab where we separated Benzoic acid and acetanilide from a solution, and then used TLC to test the purities. Does it have something to do with the melting points being a range? Or that they could be the same for different compounds? Why is Thin Layer Chromotography a better technique to analyze the separated compolunds than melting points?
Melt points are dependent on the purity of the materil, so an impure materil may give an incorrect melt point. Even if the melt point is correct, you have no way to tell if the substance is what you think or if you have another material with the same melt point.

Using TLC, you can examine the compound of interest, and see if its retention time is the same as the unknown. So TLC actually ';purifies'; the mixture for you, whereas with melt point, you arent certain if you have an impure material or not.Why is Thin Layer Chromotography a better technique to analyze the separated compolunds than melting points?
Thin layer chromatography allows you to see the components in a mixture of a substance based on the polarity of the individual components (and it absorption to the stationary phase).

The melting point will just tell you when entire substance has passed from solid to liquid form.

The TLC is a much more powerful tool in determining QUALITATIVE purity than melting point, BUT at high levels of purity %26gt; 99% purity melting point becomes a more important ANALYTICAL tool.

Differential scanning calorimetry can scan the melting point curve of a substance when in high purity and can determine the purity of the material as a numeric percentage - this is not possible with TLC.

Question on layer hens when they start laying?

I have 19 hens which are mixed between Redstars and Dark Cornish, along with a Brown leghorn rooster. They are all just over 120 days old. The rooster has been breeding the hens like crazy for the last two weeks, but I have yet to get a egg. Once the hens are old enough to be breed shouldn't they be laying eggs ?Question on layer hens when they start laying?
Chickens will start laying eggs between 6 and 8 months old depending on the breed. You might want to keep the rooster away from them, just to give the hens a break until he's really needed. The rooster is pretty much just around for chicks, and when he breeds with them helps them produce more eggs then if he wasn't around. When your hens first start laying they'll be small eggs, and get big over time. Sometimes when hens first start laying you'll be huge eggs, which contain double yolk. They're perfectly fine to eat, and it is caused just by the hens not having their eggs regulated yet.

Hope this helps!Question on layer hens when they start laying?
The day I posted this question I ended up with a egg. Since then I've been getting two or three a day, so at least two of my hens are laying at right around 4 months. Thanks for the info though Report Abuse

I have never had a Hen start laying at 4 months although alot of what you read says this is when it will happen. I have had Bantams in the past that have been 6 months old before they started laying. Your rooster is not bothered what age the Hens are so that has no significance really.

The combs and wattles usually are bright red when they start laying. Well that has been a Sign with my chickens anyway.

Don't worry they will get going eventually, frustrating as It is!
I believe you have an aggressive rooster. The hens will lay eggs when their body is mature, perhaps as soon as 30 more days. The best you can do is give them 24/7 water, layer pellets and oyster shell from the feed store. They will love a handful of chicken scratch feed and wild bird seed mix thrown on the ground. If confined they will like grass and clover clippings as well as fruit and veggie scraps.
Personally I hate overly agressive roosters and unless you want to hatch any of the eggs you do not need a rooster. the hens will still lay many many eggs. and if you do intend to breed them eventually, keep him out til you want to.
A lot of sites will say around six months or so, but it's been my experience that they start laying around one year old. This is probably because many breeds don't lay in winter, though.
120 days makes them about 4 months.

They won't lay until they are 5 or 6 months old.
    umm

Can you layer cabbage rolls in a roasting pan?

I am making cabbage rolls today for a family function and I want to make a large roaster full, so I would like to layer them so I get more in a pan. This is because I will not be able to cooke multiple pans on the day I need them. Most recipes on the internet say that you should place them in a single layer.

Do you think I can safely double them up without having them break all over and cause a big mess? Can you layer cabbage rolls in a roasting pan?
yes--I layer mine. Might help to use toothpicks to hold your cabbage in place.

They will cook faster in a single layer---if you do the math, you might find that you can still get as many baked whipping them out of the oven sooner than layered pans. Can you layer cabbage rolls in a roasting pan?
My mother-in-law's recipe calls for them to be layered, then she would cover the pan bake them slow, sometimes overnight. At least 6 hrs. Hers were the best.
I think it should work fine, just take a little longer to cook.

How to put a picture into an existing layer in photoshop cs2?

I'm new at this, and was wondering how you would put a picture as a background into an already existing layer in CS2?How to put a picture into an existing layer in photoshop cs2?
you really should paste it to a new layer, edit it, and then at the very end merge the layers. How to put a picture into an existing layer in photoshop cs2?
What do you mean? You mean like changing an already existing background of a photo with another?

If that's what you mean then all you have to do is this:

Select the magic wand tool then click the background of the already existing photo. Add to the selection by holding shift+wand or alt to take away selections. Mess around with the tolerance at the toolbar. Use the regular lasso tool if the selection doesn't work out too right.

Once you are satisfied, go to edit%26gt;clear to clear the background. Do not deslect your selection yet. Then go to the other background you want and hit ctrl+a and copy it. Go back to the original photo and go to edit%26gt;paste into. There you go! (by the way, for macs just sub alt for the option key and ctrl for the command key).

    Or...

You can use the extract filter, but for beginners it would be sorta difficult.

    OR....yea there's more...

You can email me the photos and tell me what you want done.

    Good luck.
Just paste it... however it is good if you learn it through video tutorials

  • What should i do for cleaning the carbonate layer formed on wash basin at home ?

The layer formed on the wash basin (White in color) after prolong use.

What should i do to clean it ?What should i do for cleaning the carbonate layer formed on wash basin at home ?
In case your basin is of pocelene/ China clay, you can use ZERO Paper (available at almost every hardware shop). Scrubb gently in circulatory motion. You can also use little detergent like ODOPIC or other, which will dissolve the depositions much faster.

In case of Stainless Steel, Use detergent like ODOPIC or even you can use little chlorine powder. Apply in a thin layer with little pressure with the help of scrubber like Scotchbrite, leave it for 10-15 minutes, then scrubb it with the help of scrubber. I think it should serve the purpose. What should i do for cleaning the carbonate layer formed on wash basin at home ?
Try Lemi-Shine, it's made specifically for hard water on stainless steel and other finishes. Target and Wal-Mart sell it in the dish washing soap section.
