How do I get rid of the last layer of fat on my belly?

I have lost a lot of fat in the last few months with the help of good nutrition and exercise. However, there's this final layer (about an inch maybe in thickness) which I just can't get rid of. What should I do? Some people have said it could be water and I would need some diuretic. Others have said, it's loose skin. Anyone else who was in the same boat? Any suggestions? Thanks

I am a 25 year old guy.How do I get rid of the last layer of fat on my belly?
Hi, I'm in the same boat. I take skinfold measurements with the accumeasure caliper and I come out at roughly 12% (though I feel more like 10%). My 4 pack is perfectly visible and I have good definition, but I seem to retain quite a bit of water in the lower ab area. A trainer suggested two things to me for shedding that last layer of fat and I'm passing this information to you as food for thought and experimentation: 1) protein powder retains water (according to him). Cut protein supplements for a while and check for differences. 2) You may need to cut down on your carbs more than you think. I'm not necessarily saying full ketosis, but something along the range of 80-100 grams or even less may be necessary. Experiment. Also, I suggest you try dual sessions of cardio within each day for 6 days a week, totaling one month. This could help brake the plateau. One last thing that comes to mind is zig zag your high and low calorie and carb days. I do 3 days low carb and cals and then the fourth day I carb up with 300 grams of carbs and near my TDEE cals (to boost metabolism). i.e. low-carb days: 1900 cals (20% carbs - 50% protein), high carb day: 2400-2500 cals (45-50% carbs - 30-35% protein). I hope I've given you something to play with. Best of luck.

vanilla custard

2 large eggs, separated

2/3 cup sugar

2 T. allpurpose flour

dash of salt

1 cup heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp corn starch (dilute with a bit of water- this MUST smoothly mix or the custard will not be smooth)

Beat the egg YOLKS until they're thick with your mixer. Next mix in sugar, flour, salt with the eggs. Put in saucepan and gradually add the cream stirring with a wire whisk while adding. Cook over low heat until thickened. Remove from heat and cool completely.

Add 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring and corn starch to cooled ';custard'; mixture.

Take the 2 egg whites and beat them on the highest speed on your mixer until stiff, gradually adding 1/3 cup sugar while beating.

Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the custard mixture
~*~You want to use pastry cream. ';This is a classic pastry cream often used in bakeries and restaurants. It can be used as a filling for cakes, pies or pastries. To make a lighter filling, fold in plain whipped cream.';

Pastry Cream

2 cups milk

1/4 cup white sugar

2 egg yolks

1 egg

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/3 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. In a heavy saucepan, stir together the milk and 1/4 cup of sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and egg. Stir together the remaining sugar and cornstarch; then stir them into the egg until smooth. When the milk comes to a boil, drizzle it into the bowl in a thin stream while mixing so that you do not cook the eggs. Return the mixture to the saucepan, and slowly bring to a boil, stirring constantly so the eggs don' t curdle or scorch on the bottom.

3. When the mixture comes to a boil and thickens, remove from the heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla, mixing until the butter is completely blended in. Pour into a heat-proof container and place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate until chilled before using.
Vanilla custard filling

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup scalded milk

2 egg yolks

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix cornstarch and sugar.

Add hot milk and pour gradually on the slightly beaten egg yolks, stirring constantly.

Cook in double boiler, stirring constantly until thickened.

Cool and flavor with vanilla extract.

How do I use photoshop to filter a layer?

This is a follow up to a previously asked question. How to remove a square background from a round logo. I have Photoshop CS4 available, but have very little experience with it. All I have managed to do so far is make the background checkered. How do I use photoshop to filter a layer?
Uh, if the background is solid colour, you can use Select -%26gt; Colour and select the colour, otherwise you're going to have to render it by zooming in to like 400-500% and using the pen tool to cut it out, cos you can do individual clicks with the pen tool, then right click to turn it into a selection.

It's complicated, takes time to master the Photoshop series. How do I use photoshop to filter a layer?
A checkered background means transparent. Photoshop uses the checkers so that the user (you) know that the background is transparent.

Once all you see is the round logo and everything else (the square and all) is 'checkered' you are done.

Now, if you want to save it like that so that the background stays transparent, you can 'save as' and save the file as a PNG file format - when used in web development, the PNG format maintaing its transparency.

If you want to add a different background color, simply add a layer UNDER the round logo, make sure that layer is selected, and fill it up with a color.

once done, you can 'save as' a JPG or any other format that works for you.

Will it still be good after 2 days? Does it have to be refrigerated?I'm making a cake with a fondant layer on the outside. How soon before the party can i make it?
it will be fine as long as it isnt over a week. it is fine either in a fridge or just sitting outI'm making a cake with a fondant layer on the outside. How soon before the party can i make it?
A couple days, at the most. Are you making the fondant yourself? Make sure you have band-aids on hand. My sister made homemade fondant once and she had huge blisters on her hands. There is a lot of stirring involved.
First, make the cake far enough in advance to allow it to cool thoroughly before adding the fondant to the outside. If you can allow 4-5 hours, that is best. Three hours at a minimum.

It doesn't HAVE to be refrigerated, but fondant does best when chilled. As long as it's covered with airtight wrap, it will not go stale in 2 days.
2 days will be fine! Just make sure you coat the entire cake well, let it set and store it in a cake tin or tupperware in the fridge. I usually put a layer of cling wrap over the tupperware before sealing it with the lid- it just stores it better. Yes you should refridgerate it, any number of things can happen while its sitting out. Make sure there is nothing stinky sitting close to it in the fridge or it will taste like that if its in there long enough!

How much time is required to convert a layer of soil to rock?

As layers of soil age, they condense into rock - giving us important insight into the Earth's history.

So, I believe, a simple question to our Geologists in the forums. What time frame is required to convert a layer of soil to rock, and what factors might affect it? Different types of soil will behave diffferently. So if you can, give an average time range, or a specific example you know of.

Thanks! How much time is required to convert a layer of soil to rock?
Soil does not sit there and slowly condense, as you put it, into rock. Rock sitting there weathers into soil. As soil erodes, it forms layers of sediment. As the layers of sediment increase, the additional weight compresses the lower layers, which accrete into sedimentary rock. Because there are thousands of years worth of sediment in places that have not solidified, the answer is a very long time.

I'm not a serious geologist, so have nothing in an exact range. I do know that igneous (volcanic, basically) layers can cause sediment to become stone or sedimentary rock to change, or metamorphose, to a different form of rock known as metamorphic rock. How much time is required to convert a layer of soil to rock?
it will take millions and thousands of years to just convert only one layer of soil to rock...
Eons - millions or hundreds of Millions of years...... Look at sediments and their age.... carbon dating etc.
Don't forget that it also takes pressure - time alone will not convert soil into anything other than dirt

hahahah...sounds like my story. Anyway, the outer layer of hair actually bears the brunt of everyday wear and tear more, the weather, the heat, everything. The layer underneath is more protected and so it does not dry out as much and is less frizzy. Use a reparative conditioner once a week. That will take care of the poor top layer. :)Why is my hair curly on the top layer and straight underneath?

my hair is like that naturally, but it is curly on the bottom and straight on the top layer. I need 10 points.
Could be caused by certain medicines you are taking, hormones, DNA, could be a number of reasons, But I'm about 99% sure it's not from using the peroxide. You can use a good product called SLEEK LOOK from a salon, and depending on how bad the frizzies are, you can get mild or extreme. Shampoo, Condition, Towel dry hair then add SLEEK LOOK, but not too much start with about a dime size and add more each time you shampoo and style your hair until you get the right amount to use. Blow dry hair and style as normal.
try using pantene hair restoral shampoo for a while, it might help.
My hair is the same way. I use a leave in conditioner, and to style I diffuse my hair paying extra attention to the bottom layers. It works great.

What atmoshpere layer does planes fly in?

I am confused and feel stupid for asking this but do planes fly in the Troposphere or the Stratosphere? My diagram in my science book is bad im pretty sure it is the troposphere tho.

    PLZ Help!

TY!What atmoshpere layer does planes fly in?
Troposphere. It extends out to 11 km and then the other spheres begin. No commercial flights go that high; they usually fly at about 20 to 30 thousand feet. 11 klicks would be 36,000 ft.What atmoshpere layer does planes fly in?
Airplanes fly in the stratosphere routinely. Long distance airline flights exceed 36,000 feet all the time.

Many military aircraft fly in the stratosphere for extended periods of time.

Having said all that, most flying is done in the troposphere.
Airliners tend to fly in the stratosphere, because the air is less dense and very calm. That reduces turbulence and wind resistance, thus making the airplanes more efficient. They also try to find ';jet streams'; flowing in the same direction as they are flying, because the velocity of the jet stream is added to the ';ground speed'; of the airliner.
Airlines prefer to fly in the troposphere and spy planes or supersonic jets fly in the stratosphere

What is the main difference between a Layer 3 switch and a router?

I suspect it's that a Layer 3 switch is geared toward fast data handling, while a router is all about accurate data delivery.

Is this right? What is the main difference between a Layer 3 switch and a router?
A layer three switch is a switch that has interfaces that can be configured with IP addresses and can run routing protocols like IGRP, OSPF etc. These are layer 3 protocols. It's essentially and switch and router in one.

Layer 3 - IP - is responsible for routing, directing datagrams from one network to another. The network layer may have to break large datagrams, larger than MTU, into smaller packets and host receiving the packet will have to reassemble the fragmented datagram.

I don't have CS4, but I'm guessing it's the same as earlier version. I'm also just guessing that you are referring to the ANGLE of the drop shadow. In the shadow angle settings, there should be a check box for Use Global Light. If that is clicked on - when you change the angle on one layer, it will change it ';globally'; on all the layers. Just unclick it and set the angle - it will just change that one layer.

Think about the phopholipid bilayer. There is a huge polar gradient from the interior to the exterior. While it's possible for longitudinal flipping to occur, it's extremely energetically unfavorable. The energy incurred to overcome the polarity is quite high, instead phospholipids move around and flip laterally.

Do I need to remove the single layer of old shingles before putting on new metal roofing?

Why? Why not? What are the Pros and Cons?Do I need to remove the single layer of old shingles before putting on new metal roofing?
This is a personal choice. Most carpenters will tell you to take off the old shingles - I agree. I do not like leaving old brittle shingles under either a new metal or another shingled roof. To me it's like putting on a new shirt over a dirty T shirt. I don't think there is much technical disadvantage leaving the old shingles on, except that those old shingles might crack and break off as workers walk on it to install the new metal roof, but the metal is strong enough that it won't buckle or pucker when they screw it down through the old shingles.

Make sure the roofers install a new metal edge that comes down over the old roof edge that is now on the roof, or take it off.

Ask how they will install the valleys, and flash around any vent pipes, chimney, and other roof penetrations. These are areas that need discussed before they start. Lots of people claim to know how to properly install a metal roof, some of them do know how. The others are fine if it's just a single slope roof with no valleys or roof penetrations, but they really don't know how to do these areas and it looks terrible and they will leak forever.

Don't forget to ask about roof vents? Don't let them roof over them if you have them now. They are harder to install and flash in a metal roof, so they might try to tell you that you don't really need them.

Also ask if there will be any splices in your metal roof panels? Try to avoid these.

Ask questions and don't pay very much money up front. Get it all in writing including a labor warranty covering any leaks. Only pay them after you get a good heavy rain to test out the installation. You can hold back 10% of the total price until you get a good rain to test it out.Do I need to remove the single layer of old shingles before putting on new metal roofing?

How do i get rid of the layer of fat/oil on the top of my stew?

Its cooking in the slow cooker but the top is all oil that has has come from the fat melting. Also i floured the beef and browned it before it went into the slow cooker so this may have effected it too. I'll be putting flour in at the end to thicken it up a bit, will this help with the oil?

thanksxxxxHow do i get rid of the layer of fat/oil on the top of my stew?
Either do what obd says or, if you're in a hurry, skim the liquid off the top of the stew with a spoon or ladle and put it into a deep pyrex bowl or jug.

Don't worry about taking some of the stock as well.

When you have got most of the fat into the jug, let it settle out again and skim the deep layer of fat off (don't put it down the sink) and return the stock to your stew.

The remaining fat in the stew will be absorbed by the flour when you thicken it.How do i get rid of the layer of fat/oil on the top of my stew?
adding the flour will thicken the stew but will not get rid of it. It will taste good but wont be very healthy. Best thing to do is transfer the stew to another container and allow it to chill in the fridge for about 30 mins this will harden the oil and you will be able to remove it much easier. You can still add the flour or cornstarch afterward to thicken just make sure you remove some of the the broth put it in another separate container and whisk in the flour or cornstarch. once its whisked heat up the stew And pour in your thickening agent gradually until its thickened to your liking.
I always flour the cubed beef before browning it in a lightly oiled pan with thinly sliced onion, carrot and garlic.

Then transfer the content of the pan into a heavy casserole. Pour in the pan some red wine and stock and boil on high heath stirring to scrape the juices encrusted and add this sauce to the casserole, adding enough stock to cover the meat.

Slow cook (I cover the casserole and seal it with a fitting lid or aluminium foil and put it in the oven) the way you prefer.

To thicken the the sauce NEVER add flour or cornstarch, it doesn't even help with the fat!

When the meat is done, transfer it with the vegetables to a warm serving dish and quickly boil the liquid left in the casserole to reduce it to a thick sauce.

Add part of it to the meat and serve the rest in a warm saucer on the side.

If you really worry about any excess fat remaining, as others said best way is to cool it in the fridge and spoon off the solidified fat and reheat.

    Enjoy!
Hi Pomegran, here is a tip for you for the future, I do not use any flour, when I brown the meat I make sure I brown it well that does believe it or not seal in a lot of the goodness I call it. When I am cooking like the stew I use the two liquids, the beef stock and the Dark Ale, other times a good wine. for thickening I peel and shred a potato, that is your natural starch, I have never had the problem you describe in your question. If you want it to be more savory make the stew 1-2 days in advance then chill the stew and scrape of the layer of grease that is floating on the top, then reheat it before it's served.
If it is still warm, just spoon it off. If you put it in the frig, it will harden and you just pick it off. Many times stews and chillis taste even better if you let the flavors mingle longer.
spoon off what you can, lay a couple of slices of bread on top %26amp; then somewhat quickly remove them, they will soak up some... your flour slurry to thicken @ the end of cooking should take care of the rest...GOOD LUCK
Use kitchen roll to dab the oil off, fold into a square and dip the corner into the oil. It will be quickly soaked up.
Use a ';turkey baster'; (metal tube with rubber squeezy at end) to suck it up.
wrap ice cubes in paper towels and skim across the top. fat will become solid and stick to the towel
Use a sifter and run it along the top of the pot.
simple....CONTINUE spooning the stuff off ....

scoop up the top layer with the laddle. not extremely effective, but it helps a bit
    blot it with kitchen roll??

  • What will Ab workouts do to the Layer of fat over my stomach?

I have like a Soft stomach with a little layer of fat over it and I'm wondering...

If I start doing ab workouts will that muscle burn away while muscle is accumulating or will muscle just accumulate under the fat? What will Ab workouts do to the Layer of fat over my stomach?
In order to burn the layer of fat over your abs, you must do cardio.

Also, spot reducing does not work. You cannot spot reduce. Your body type might either be a pear, apple, hourglass, or rectangle. Losing weight will only make you a smaller version of that body type. ';Spot reducing'; exercises like squats will only build up the muscle and make it bigger, I suggest you balance out the problem by building up the muscles in the areas that you lack, making you more of an hourglass.

Eat food as close to it's natural state as possible. (Ex. veggies, fruits, beans, seeds, eggs, lean meat/not beef jerky or sandwich meats.) You don't want all those additives, preservatives, fats, food dyes, etc. They mess with your metabolism and toxify your body.

Rule of thumb: If it comes in a wrapper, (meaning it's processed,) don't eat it!

I would also limit cheese and meat since those are fattening and you can get your calcium and protein from other sources, like leafy greens, and quinoa.

Just eat a little less than what you normally do, the goal is to not feel stuffed, just full. Eat many small meals throughout the day to keep the metabolism high and burning. You won't have to count calories, and you will lose weight. Do not starve yourself!! Starvation mode makes you lose muscle and makes you gain fat. When you eat again, your body will hoard fat and your lost muscle will be replaced by fat. Muscle is metabolically active and burns calories even while you are resting, so losing muscle from starving is detrimental. Also you become a skinny fat person, that looks disgusting because there is no muscle tone.

If you get cravings, think of what it is you're craving: texture, taste?

For example, you crave sweets. Eat fruit. Or drink vanilla almond milk. Or eat butternut squash or sweet potatoes.

Or if you crave something salty, have nuts, or have tomatoes or cucumbers with salt.

    Crunchy, have nuts or seeds

These are just some examples. If you crave chocolate, eat the 85% dark chocolate. You will get tons of antioxidants, and more chocolate to satisfy your craving with less junk.

Do not drink pop, even diet pop. Diet foods are evil and all the artificial sweeteners WILL make you gain weight. Studies have proven this.

Also exercise, constantly challenge your body and you will lose weight! Don鈥檛 buy into the acai berry, special K, or colon cleanse scams. They鈥檙e scams scams scams!!What will Ab workouts do to the Layer of fat over my stomach?
    fat turns into muscle.

ab work outs, push ups, yes, CARDIO, metabolism.

    that all helps, dear

    :)
The only way of getting rid of the layer of fat is eating healthy. Of course Ab exercises help also. Along with running, cardio workouts.
Do crunches and such to increase muscle tone on your stomach and then diet and do cardio to decrease fat. You cannot lose weight in targeted areas like they claim infomercials. Good luck!

What effect does it have on thin layer chromatography if the jar is opened during the process?

I had some really incompetent lab partners this past week and they kept opening the TLC jar to check how far the solvent had travelled instead of just looking through the jar....

So I'm including that in my errors in my report, but what kind of effect would it have on the actual outcome if the jar is opened? I know the system falls out of equilibrium, but what will that do to the substances travelling up the plate? What effect does it have on thin layer chromatography if the jar is opened during the process?
It shouldn't have much effect on the results, it's possible that it could have affected the rate at which the sample climbed the plate, but it's not likely that it would substantially skew your results. You lose more solvent because the vapor pressure is released each time the lid is opened, but like I said before, I would expect only minimal effects.

How should I take off the first layer of wallpaper in my bathrooms?

I used the chemicals that they gave me at Home Depot (I think its called Zed) and sprayed it several times on the wallpaper in my bathroom. The first layer of the wallpaper with the desing came off but behind it is this yellow layer which is very hard to remove even after spraying it 8 times it is only possible to scratch it off with your finger which is not efficient and takes too long. If I try to take it off with with a scorching tool it damages the wall. Can anyone tell me an easier way to remove this paper, which I think is suppose to serve as a moisture barrier. How should I take off the first layer of wallpaper in my bathrooms?
A lady that does wallpapering for a living i asked her the best way to remove wallpaper and she told me what she has done for over 30 yrs. Hot water and vinegar said its a little smelly but it removes everything and the vinegar leaves a clean surfaceHow should I take off the first layer of wallpaper in my bathrooms?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are describing what happens when someone wallpapers without first priming, or sizing. There is NO WAY to get the stuff off without harming your walls. There are 2 solutions. One is to re-drywall the room. The second is to remove what you can, and prime with a high adhesive primer. Then apply a textured paint.
At home depot they also have a roller with points on it. Roll on the old paper, soak with warm water in a sponge, then lightly scrape off with a spatula.
If it's coming off with scratching and you're not damaging the wall (hitting plaster), then it's not bare, unprimed drywall, like one person described (I had that once, very frustrating). The others give you great solutions (I'm going to have to try the vinegar one!) I usually get very hot water, soak an old towel in it, squeeze out some of the excess water, and rub it on. Wait a few minutes, then use a scraper and scrape it off. Repeat with the hot towel as needed - this can also be rubbed on the wall to remove tiny pieces left behind. On large jobs, as a steamer, I use the wet towel and an old I-won't-use-it-for-clothes iron. I had a steamer, loaned it to a neighbor, never saw it again (which is why I don't loan out tools any more), and the iron was an easy replacement.
fill a bucket of warm water add a little washing up liquid wet wallpaper leave for 5 minutes(while waiting soak another area) to let the water soak in use scraper and it should come off easily
Try using a solution of warm water and fabric softener. I just remodeled an apartment and this took off five layers of wallpaper and the glue right down to the plaster. Work in small sections because once the solution dries, it won't work.
There is a steamer for taking off wall paper You might be able to rent from a rental place but be careful not to take the paper layer of your sheet rock off, then you will have a mess.
the yellow layer is glue, you should have used a wall steamer to remove the paper, the glue would have come off with it... you can still use a steamer and putty knife to remove it
It could be that the paper has been painted, you can scratch through it with a blade knife or in the UK we have a tool which spins around and scratches the paper, you then wet as normal and the paper comes off. You can buy this from B%26amp;Q which is basically a twin of home depot so ask have they the same tool.

Would it be better to store 7-layer dip in the fridge or out overnight?

I read it was supposed to be served room temperature, but I'm just wondering what would be better to preserve it? Should I put it in the fridge or leave it out?Would it be better to store 7-layer dip in the fridge or out overnight?
Think about what is inside it. Aren't some of those things stored in the refrigerator?

Put it in the refrigerator and take it out an hour before you want to serve it.Would it be better to store 7-layer dip in the fridge or out overnight?
put it in the fridge, but take it out before you eat it
    Refrigerate it
    Put it in the fridge.
i would definately say thing fridge!!
    in the fridge

    remove 1 hour before serving
Please refrigerate until ready to use. You can bring it to room temperature about anhour or so before serving.
By all means, refrigerate it. It will grow bacteria and make you sick if left out overnight.
Refrigerate it until about one hour before serving It might still be cool, but it will be good and about the right temperature.
Is this the 7 layer dip made with sour cream (refrigerated), beans (room temperature), lettuce (refrigerated), tomatoes (room temperature), cheese (refrigerated), olives (room temperature) and meat (refrigerated)?

    Yeah...leave it out.
I think it's best to refrigerate it overnight and then bring it to room temperature [for about 30 minutes] before serving ;o)
Fridge that dip! It doesn't take very long for anything with sour cream to go bad...serving the dip at room temp is fine if you've made it within an hour or two but store any leftovers for safety's sake!
    put it in the fridge
Put it in the fridge. Bacteria can grow after 2 hours and get you very sick. If you are using leftovers, take the portion you want to eat out of the main dish, set it on the counter for 15-30 min then eat. Discard any unused. Do not re-refrigerate because every time you take it out and put it back in, you are introducing it to bacteria.
if you have sour cream in it leaving it out may not be a good idea

Is it okay to put a second layer of asphalt shingles on my roof?

I believe that my roof need a new layer of asphalt shingles. They are not curling yet, but they are about 12-15 years old and they have been repaired a few times, etc. Is it okay to put a second layer of shingles over the top of the old? Do I have to wory about re flashing the chimney, etc?Is it okay to put a second layer of asphalt shingles on my roof?
Code allows 2 layers of shingles before you have to do a tear off. But before you do, check for dips or soft spots. There may be some sheathing you'll need to replace. I doubt you will unless you've had past leaks. I now live in Florida and I was told they must do a tear off here because of the heat causing the orig. layer to curl. And you shouldn't have to re flashing anything. Good LuckIs it okay to put a second layer of asphalt shingles on my roof?
yes you can put over the first layer as long as their not curled or you ahve a bunch missing
I wouldn't do it. The reason? I have done it before, and the life of the second roof was shortened by the heat build-up. So did I save any money? No, now I have a third roof on the property and had to pull the first 2 off before the third went on. In the long run, it would have been cheaper to pull each roof off, and then I'd probably still be on the second roof.

    Good Luck
Different municipalities have different codes regarding this. In my area, New Orleans, we are allowed up to three layers. I personally believe that it is better to pay for the tear off. The old layer of shingles will cause more heat for the new layer, shortening their life span. It is also a fire issue.
as my grandpappy sez, if you are going to do something, do it right the first time. easier to take off 1 layer than 2 layers. better job in the end.
if you are going to go threw the expense of putting on a new roof you main as well do it correctly and tear off the old roof. having a flat surface is best for shingles to adhere themselves to the roof thus making it last longer. if you are trying to get out of the expense of having to do it again consider metal roofing yes it is more expensive but the metal roofing last 2 to 3 times longer than shingles!
You can put a second set of shingles on. You should not have to reflash anything as long as it is not leaking now. I personally would not shingle over the first layer of shingles. The main reason is I would rather take the first set off and check the status of wood underneath.
Yes but not a third. Yes re-flash.
you can add a 2nd layer, but i wish i knew what the type / reason for your repairs. if the roofer uses the existing flashing correctly, it won't have to be replaced. if he buries it, water will continue to run over the old roof and under the new. on my house the last roofer did this, before we owned it, and it caused a lot of damage to the rafters, sheathing, and siding. what i tell my customers is; 1) the cost of disposal will continue to go up, it will cost you more when it needs the next roof, what will your financial situation be like in 20-30 years? 2) it's better for the new roof, it will last longer, lay flatter, and look better. 3) by starting with a clean slate, i can guaranty that the flashing is done correctly. this last part is especially important if you have had hard to fix mystery leaks that deify solving, and need repeated repair attempts. so, i guess what i am saying is, if you can afford to rip the old layer of now, it will be better in the long run,and cheaper in the long run, too. good luck, i hope this helps.

What is the importance of the ozone layer on solar energy?

My teacher assigned this question to research. I have researched to the best of my ability but nothing seems to be what I'm looking for. I don't really understand the question either. What is the importance of the ozone layer on solar energy?
    http://climatecrisis.org/

    http://www.livescience.com/php/video/pla鈥?/a>

the livescience link is sorta neat, but you have to wait through a few minutes of junkWhat is the importance of the ozone layer on solar energy?
Solar panels (arrays of photovoltaic cells that make electricity directly from sunlight) rely on visible light only and the ozone layer screens out ultraviolet light only. So it seems to be it has no importance.
I'm not surprised-the question is poorly phrased. But here's the answer. :)

The light (solar energy) from the sun has different properties depending on its wavelength. Some is visible light--what our eyes respond to--but much of it is at a wavelength we can't see. At a wavelength somewhat shorter than visible light is what we call ulraviolet light (UV) Its the type of solar energy that causes you to tan--or sunburn--when your outside. Too much of it can cause canceer.

The ozone layer is a region high in the atmosphere that contains a high concentration of oxygen in the form of O3 molecules. This is ozone, and it absorbs most of the UV from the sun. Without the ozone layer, we would be subject to a dangerous level of UV anytime we went outside.

Thats why aabout 30 years ago scientiss became concerned when they found some chemicals (cloroflourocarbons or CFCs) released by people (a lot of it in the form of aerosols) had the property of breaking down the ozone. The CFCs were banned--but these chemicals last a long dime--and so there's still a pattern of ';holes'; in the ozone (really areas of abnormally low concentration). But the ozone layer is slowly recovering as the CFCs gradually break down.

The importance of the ozone layer is that it filters out the UV, so that we are protected from the harmful effects of too much UV.

  • Can you remove the top layer of paint leaving the bottom layer on?

I painted my green hutch blue five years ago and want it green again. Can I use something to take the blue paint of leaving the old green paint intact? Can you remove the top layer of paint leaving the bottom layer on?
I used to work in the paint dept. at Lowe's. As the previous poster said you could try but it's going to prove rather difficult your best bet would be to go to say Lowe's ask for a quart or a gallon(depending on how big your hutch is) of High Hiding Primer it is intended for going over dark colors and you may wish to consider having it tinted to a lighter green that way once you begin to paint and it dries it will blend in.Can you remove the top layer of paint leaving the bottom layer on?
I have done a lot of work on the side for a professional painter, and I can say that I know of no paint stripper inviormentally friendly or not that will strip off just one layer of paint.
You can try but it will be very difficult to leave the green bottom layer intact. Paint stripper will probably remove some of that as well as the blue. It would be much simpler to just repaint it green.
    No.

How do you make you a two layer cake with half white, chocolate, and strawberry homemade?

I am making it for my baby sister. How do you make you a two layer cake with half white, chocolate, and strawberry homemade?
This is what I would do

you can buy cake pans with dividers in them, if you don't want to do that you could buy two cake mixes one a chocolate and one a white, prepare both mixes the way it says on the box.in one pan put half of the chocolate save the other half .Heres what to do with the second layer, with the vanilla cake mix you will also make the entire box, however after you have made the mix divide half of it in half so you will only be using a quarter of the mix in each pan,you can have quarter white and the other quarter add a little strawberry flavor and a little red food coloring when it is done you will have to quarters making the other half. You will not have to bake these quarters as long as the chocolate. You will have half of the chocolate mix and half of the white mix left that you can make cupcakes with. You will have two layers but three flavors.I would suggest frosting it with white frosting and a few fresh strawberries.good luck.

What is the relationship betwwen the ozone layer and the greenhouse gases?

In al gore's documentary ';an inconvenient truth', he said that the atmosphere gets thicker therefore the heat of the sun is trapped on earth. But then the ozone layer is getting thinner. I just don't understand the concept of the greenhouse gases compared to the concept of the ozone layer. What is the relationship betwwen the ozone layer and the greenhouse gases?
The ozone layer and greenhouse gases are not directly related.

The ozone layer is an area in the atmosphere where more ozone (also known as O3) compared to regular oxygen (O2) collects.

The Ozone layer is very good at blocking Ultraviolet light from the Sun from reaching the surface.

Some other byproducts of pollution (such as Nitrous Oxides from car exhaust) do react with the Ozone in this layer and reduce the amount present.

Greenhouse gasses are very good at trapping heat in the atmosphere by preventing Infrared energy (heat) from radiating back into space.

One of the strongest greenhouse gasses is Methane, which is released in the Oceans as a byproduct of biological decay.

Carbon Dioxide is another greenhouse gas that is released:

    (1)When you breath

    (2)When an animal breathes

    (3)By Plants at night

(4)When something is burnedWhat is the relationship betwwen the ozone layer and the greenhouse gases?
Ozone layer in the upper levels (in the stratosphere) help us whereas the ground-level ozone is harmful to us.This is explained below.

The ozone layer, approximately at a height of 25Kms in the stratosphere absorbs the harmful ultra-violet rays (which will produce skin cancer)of the solar radiation thereby protecting us from the disease.Further as it absorbs the ultra-violet rays which is a part of the solar radiation,it softens the intense light and heat of the sun.

But ground-level ozone which is found near the surface is harmful to us.It is an air pollutant and is a key component to smog.It affects the respiratory systems of animals and affects our immune system and is considered as cancer causing agent.

Further it is one of the greenhouse gases and its contribution to greenhouse effect is about 3 %.So ,an increase in the amount of ground-level ozone in the air will increase the greenhouse effect leading to global warming.

The ozone layer at the upper atmosphere has mothing to do with the greenhouse gases except the fact that the ground-level ozone is one of the greenhouse gases.
Basically, the ozone layer is a thick layer in our atmosphere that protects us from radiation.Remember that the ozone layer brings in a certain amount of radiation and it lets out a certain amount of radiation. But, when greenhouse gases enter our atmosphere, the gases reduce the chances of the ozone layer sending back the balanced amount of radiation back into space, causing that layer to become thinner and thinner. An example of what the Earth will be like if us humans don't help to prevent the use of these gases to weaken our atmosphere is the planet Mars thats already going through an ice age and if that were to happen on Earth, it will be worse then the first one. Years ago, they banned aerosol cans because of how the can was made and the chemicals that went to making it.
i watched that in bio at the biginning of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ozone layer: where o3 collects, where the greenhouse gases collect

greenhouse gases: gases that are let off by us humans that go into the ozone layer and make it thinker and heat up the earth quicker!!!!!!

Banana pudding with freesh banans as a layer in a white cake?

Would banana pudding taste good as a layer in a white cake? (vanilla pudding with fresh bananas) I am really not a good baker and have basically only made cupcakes, but it is my fathers b day and i am baking him a cake for his birthday and i really want it to be good. Will this work , i didnt want to go with just a basic white cake so i figured this might give it a little funk. Any advice or recipes would be great.

Thx so much!Banana pudding with freesh banans as a layer in a white cake?
It is a very good idea. A couple of suggestions, make a sheet cake and poke (1/2 inch diameter) holes in it...then pour your prepared pudding on top. It will seep into the holes and make your cake moist. It is also a very pretty preparation. Also, if you are putting bananas into the pudding, note that they may brown slightly when exposed to the air like apples.Banana pudding with freesh banans as a layer in a white cake?
    Yes here are 2 ideas:

    INGREDIENTS

1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix

1 (3.5 ounce) package instant banana pudding mix

    4 eggs

    1 1/2 cups milk

    1 1/2 cups white sugar

In a large bowl, stir together the cake mix and instant pudding. Beat in the eggs and 1 1/2 cup of milk. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans.

Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 17 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. While the cake is baking, make the filling.

Stir together the sugar and flour. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and sugar mixture. Beat in the milk and banana extract until smooth.

When the cake is cooled, invert onto a serving tray. Spread filling over the top and cover with remaining layer of cake. Keep chilled until 1/2 hour before serving.

    INGREDIENTS

1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix

1 (3.5 ounce) package instant banana pudding mix

    4 eggs

    1 cup water

    1/4 cup vegetable oil

    3/4 cup mashed bananas

    2 cups confectioners' sugar

    2 tablespoons milk

    1 dash vanilla extract

    1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

    DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10 inch Bundt pan.

In a large bowl, stir together cake mix and pudding mix. Make a well in the center and pour in eggs, water, oil and mashed banana. Beat on low speed until blended. Scrape bowl, and beat 4 minutes on medium speed. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake in a preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until cake tests done. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

To make glaze: In a small bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla. Whisk until smooth and of a drizzling consistency. When cake is cooled, drizzle icing over cake with a zigzag motion. Sprinkle chopped nuts over wet icing if desired.
    mmmmmmmmmmmmm that sounds so yummy!

    please make me one!
Making a banana pudding into a trifle would be nice. That way you would have the banana pudding and the cake. You could use pound cake or angel food cake. Bananas, vanilla pudding, cake and whipped topping. Garnish with cherries.
Go to www.allrecipes.com it is an awesome recipe site. Another basic good easy out of the box cake recipe is: take a white cake mix bake as directed. Get a box of cherry or strawberry jello. Mix the jello as directed. Take a toothpick and poke holes in the cake pour the jello over the cake, it will seep down in the holes. then get a big container of coolwhip and spread over the cake and refrigerate it. YUMMY and EASY =)
I have done this before.........it is really delicious if you like sweets......I've made chocolate cake with fresh strawberries and whip yumylicious!
I would say a make 2 circular vanilla cakes, put chocolate pudding in the middle of the two, and a layer of chocolate pudding on the top, then put banana slices on top of the cake.

  • How much would it cost to layer and highlight hair?

I've been thinking of getting my hair layered shoulder-length, and highlighted red.

How much might it cost to do this? How much would it cost to layer and highlight hair?
first of all only blond is considered a highlight. What you want is a lowlight. It will be around 55- 60 dollars at a decent salon. You can get it cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Go somewhere that will do it right so your hair stays in good condition. How much would it cost to layer and highlight hair?
    kool
well i just got my hair highlighted and cut/styled yesterday and it came to a total of about $175...so i would expect it to cost anywhere from $100-$200 depending on the extent of the highlights and the salon
You can do to great clips are get a hair cut for $14. They can layer it for you if you ask. You can go to Walgreens and pick up a highlighting kit for $10-$15. That would be the cheapest way to do it. That's how I highlight and layer my hair.

How can I safely remove a layer of latex paint from my original stained hardwood doors?

How can I safely remove the latex paint without damaging the gorgeous chocolate-stained hardwood underneath? How can I safely remove a layer of latex paint from my original stained hardwood doors?
paint remover in the gel. Good luck. It`s hard work and very messy. Your gonna need alot of rags and drop cloth`s. DON`T do it on the hinges. You have to take it to a basement or garage. Brush on, wipe off, re-peat etc.....How can I safely remove a layer of latex paint from my original stained hardwood doors?
Strypeeze would probably be the easiest. Brush it on and it will clean it down to the wood.
Latex paint that is applied on top of an varnish can typically be removed by applying heat. A $30 heat gun from Home Depot may be able to do the trick. This will eliminate the use of strippers that may be harmful.

The gels and other removers can be effective, but you may need to remove the doors and work on them in a well ventilated area.

Here is a blog that has a bunch of solutions. I have actually called this company for information on projects I have faced, and they have always been helpful. If you get stuck, call them up, I am sure they will help you solve it.

If u create a new file, the background will be gray and white checkerboard until when u create u choose white as the background. when u click on File%26gt;New the box that is displayed will allow u to choose the background. the gray and white means that it is transparent and if u havent pasted any picture on that it means that its empty.

How can a I make my layer cakes not lean to once side?

I have recently became interested in baking layer cakes, but after I stack them and then ice it, later it starts to lean. How do I make sure that it doesnt lean so it will pleasing to the eye?How can a I make my layer cakes not lean to once side?
You need a cake leveler you can get it at Joann's or Michael's (craft store) if you have one or may be able to get one at your local big chain store (may be a bit more $$ than the craft store) You can also get a plastic disc that sits on top of first layer and a stand for teirs. Like I said Michael's or Joann's should have the supplies you need. Freeze the cake before you frost it, it won't crumb up as easily, you just brush the loose crumbs off first ( friend who did it professionally gave me that tip) You can also use small dowels to keep the cake in place (saw that on the food network ) or long tooth picks. Happy caking!!How can a I make my layer cakes not lean to once side?
When it's done baking, cut off the round part so it's flat and then use stiff icing between the layers, but not too much, JUST enough so that they stick. Line them up so the from the side they look straight and so that from the top you just see the topmost layer. I hope I helped you!
I cut the round parts of so they are level then brush the crumbs off with a pastry brush and sometimes when I'm making a cake with many layers(if not thin layers) I use shish kabob skewers to keep in place.
Was thinking of most of the answers already posted...is your oven level ? could be another reason...just a thought.
you have to make sure the layer are level before you stack. take a sharp knife and run it over the top to level it.

then apply a crumb layer of icing. that seals the cake. apply filling to the center stopping about a 1/4 inch from the edge then plop the top layer on. you can then ice the rest
After you cool the cakes, take a serrated knife and cut the top until even. Some cake dome a little. Make sure the cake is cool before frosting and that your not putting to much frosting in-between the layers.
Use icing to cover up imperfections...and the layers don't have to be directly on top of one another.
Put the bottom layer upside down, add frosting to top of it and then put top layer on right side up. That way it will be a flat surface between them.

  • What is the color of a layer of a finely powdered mineral?

What is it? This is very needed for my Science Activity. Thanks in advance! What is the color of a layer of a finely powdered mineral?
You may be referring to a 'streak test', in which a mineral is rubbed on an unglazed tile. The colour of the 'streak' (finely divided particles forming a mark on the tile) may tell you about the mineral. The streak may be a quite different colour from the mineral itself.

for instance, a streak test is a quick way of telling the difference between the two main iron ore minerals Haematite (Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4). They are often both black in colour; but the streak of magnetite is dark grey; whereas the streak of haematite is red. What is the color of a layer of a finely powdered mineral?
That depends on exactly which mineral it is, and which inclusions/impurities it has trapped in its crystal structure before it becomes a powder of sand sized or smaller (clay, silt) particles. Google phi grain size scale if you are curious. A layer of finely powdered amethyst, the purple variety of quartz, will be different color than a layer of finely powdered rose quartz, because of the differences in the chemical impurities of the atoms that are trapped in the interstices of the crystal structure.

How do I make a several layer cake?

My son's 14th birthday is in 2 weeks and he has requested a seven layer cake. He says it is a yellow cake with chocolate icing in the layers. I am a beginner baker and have only mastered one strawberry cake from scratch and of course the Duncan Hines varieties. I would love helpful hints with the layer thing.....How do I make a several layer cake?
Try making a cake from scratch because box cake doesn't have the support you need for the cake. Make the cake before and freeze it, trust me it is much easier to handle when they are slightly frozen and it will still tast fine. Make the cake layers thin by slicing the layers horizontally. Just assemble like any other cake and when you get the last layer on insert straws cut down to size into the cake to stablize it and so it won't slide. Ice the whole thing and make sure people know about the straws before you serve. Hope it turns out.How do I make a several layer cake?
after your cakes cool you take a large serrated knife and cut the cake into two cakes you can do this with square or round cakes just put each layer on a flat surface and starting on one side just start cutting back and forth until you have 2 round or square haves try to keep as even as possible put one layer down and put filling on then the other half put filling on until you complete your cake this would be 4 round or square whole cakes when you cut each one it would come to 8 round or square cakes frost and decorate the rest of cake you can also have different fillings between each layer I like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla you choose good luck it takes some work but it is very pretty
Seven layers is very ambitious and if he wants it so badly, I suggest purchasing a bakery cake. Otherwise, get your handy boxes of cake mix and instead of splitting a boxful of batter among two round pans, split it into three, four for your second batch (but this might make the layers too thin and break easily so watch out). Your layers will be thinner and your resulting cake less monstrous and more manageable.
Make thin layers with the cake pan using only 1/2 the batter that you nomally do. When I do big layer cakes, I alternate layer, like yello, choc, yellow, choc, etc...
Bake 4 round cakes (Or square). Let cool and remove from pans. Mark the middle of each side with a cut with a knife.Take some dental floss and run through the middle of the cake using the middle cuts as a guide. This will give you eight layers. If you wish you can take a circle (I use a smaller plate as a guide) that is smaller than the layer and cut around it to make a smaller layer This may be done early and the cakes may be frozen. Make icing. Take plate or cake circle the cake will sit on. put some icing on platter and place first layer. Make sure the smooth side is up (If one side is too rounded. Use the same method you used to cut the cake to cut the taller middle portion so it is smoother.) then ice the top of the 1st layer and add the second. Keep doing this and when you get to the 4th or 5th layer put 4-5 wooden sticks for BBQ with pointy tips cut off, around center of cake. Make sure they will all fit inside the smallest cake. In a pinch you could use straws too but sticks offer more support. Continue icing the top and side of each layer until all are iced. Then decorate as usual!

    Good Luck!

E-mail if you need more help
It's not simple. ok lets say it is a 4 layer cake. you alwauys start of with the vanila or chocolate bread thing whatever it is called. then make the 1st on the bigest. The you add the chocalte icingon top of the fisrt layer. the make the second layer a little bit smaller than the 1st one. now cover that top with choclate frosting. the make the 3rd layer smaller than the 3rd one.then put frosting on the 3rd layer. then make the 4th layer smaller than the 3rd one . then i think you said yellow frsting so since the fisrt layer will be showing put yellow frosting on that one, and cover the sides to with yellow frosting. i hope i explaind it well!
Oh my. Assuming that he's hoping for 4 layers of cake, and 3 layers of icing, do this.

Bake 2 round cakes (oh just use a mix - he won't know). Of course you want to fully prep the pans so the cake comes out cleanly. Let cool.

Using a serrated knife or a special Wilton layering knife, cut each cake into 2 layers. ( I usually bend down so I'm level w/ hte cake) Slide a baking sheet (the kind w/ no lip) into the cut and lift off the top layer.

Now start stacking it - a layer of cake, icing, then use that cake top on the baking sheet, slide it onto the base layer and repeat until you have all 7 layers.

Are you sure he wouldn't be happy w/ just 3? 2 cakes w/ icing in the middle?

How long should i chill seven layer Italian cookies for before i put the chocolate on them?

How do I make a double layer cake?

I am making a Birthday cake for a friend and I really want to make it a double layer! They always look so much better! How do I make a double layer cake?
You'll need two round cake pans, and pour your batter into the two pans instead of the regular rectangular pan.

Once they get done, (and you can stick a toothpick in the center and it come out clean) then set it to cool completely.

Then set one layer and put some of your icing on the top of it to act as glue when you put the top layer on.

Then lay your top layer on and carefully ice it.

I want to use my peanut butter rice krispy left over mixture in a brownie recipe, by layering before baking. Will it work?Has anyone made brownies with a layer of peanut butter and rice krispies?
Yes, it will work very nicely. Might add some mini marshmallows to the blend so they stick together really good.

did you know you can put caramels in a bowl and put the bowl in a pan of simmering water and melt them adding a can of Eagle Brand milk to it. Then spread this mix in the middle of your brownies too???Has anyone made brownies with a layer of peanut butter and rice krispies?
I don't know about layering. There was a recipe on the Rice Krispies box last year that suggested mixing them in a recipe.

I'd think the Rice Krispies would burn. Of course, I've only ever made plain old brownies with no layering.

How do you cook a dual layer cake at one time in one pan?

I would like to make a cake with two different cake mixes with the layers being on top of them but only using one pan-- anybody every try this and have tips? I don't want to cook it in 2 pans and put them together-- I would like them to spend a majority of the time cooking together. How do you cook a dual layer cake at one time in one pan?
make sure both cakes will fit in the pan. then, spoon the second cake on top so that it will be as even as possible. kind of like making a marble cake without the swirl.

or you could try a thin layer of flour over the first and then spoon the second.

it would be easier to do side by side then layersHow do you cook a dual layer cake at one time in one pan?
    you can't bud...you have to use 2 diff pan's....sry...;)
    Two different cake mixes?

Just put one in the bottom of the pan, spread it evenly, then pour the second batter over top of that one and spread it out, then bake it. It may marble together a little where they touch. Keep in mind your cake will likely be much thicker that way that it would be if it were just one batter, so the cooking time will be different. If it ends up being nearly twice as thick as the time given is specified for, try lowering your oven temperature about 50 degrees and cooking it for longer, that way it won't burn. If one batter takes considerably longer than the other, start baking that one first, then when it is partially baked, spread the other batter on top of that and put it back in to finish baking so they are both cooked at around the same time.
You could cook both mixes in one deep pan, then when it cools, cut the cake in half to get 2 layers. the problem is, it will turn out like a marble cake. If that is ok, then do it like I suggested. If not, you pretty much have to use 2 pans.
If the cake calls for 2 nine inch pans then I think it would work to cook in a very large round or rectangular pan. It may work sort of like a marble cake, if you mean a layer of chocolate and a layer of vanilla on top. Just add a bit more cooking times to accomodate the larger pan size

What is the best way to layer a club sandwich?

Lets say that there is lettuce, cheese, ham , mayo and tomatoes. Or it could be a burgerWhat is the best way to layer a club sandwich?
aI know of a few ways

    the traditional

    triple Decker

    toast three slices of bread

roast turkey the real stuff is best

    tomato

    lettuce

    mayo

lay a slice of toasted bread down spread mayo on top with salt and pepper then add the turkey

next another slice of toasted bread

next the tomato and lettuce topped off with the last toasted bread

you can add crispy bacon to the turkey section

for the variations you can replace the turkey with ham with or without the bacon and you can add cheese

    and Dijon mustard

The last time I was at a country restaurant they had a country version and instead of meat they used egg

still a triple Decker with egg in one section and lettuce and tomato in the other

If you want less carbs use two slices of bread instead of three or you can use a bun

traditionally the mayo is with the meat

But I have seen it with the veggies

If you want you can add cucumber's / green pepper/ or any veggies you like

it is just a matter of tasteWhat is the best way to layer a club sandwich?
A traditional club sandwhich produced in the industry would be

    toasted bread (not warm)

    Mayo (act as the glue)

Turkey or ham etc (4 ounces)

    Tomato

    Salt peper

    Lettuce

    Cheese

Mayo on the next peice of bread attach and build in the same sequence as above. Be sure to keep the Tomato and cheese seperate, due to the tomato denaturing the cheese.
3 pieces of toast. first mayo, cheese, bacon

then mayo ham, lettuce tomato more mayo and cheese on top
Three pieces of toast, any bread is suitable. Put avocado mayo on the first piece, then add chiffonade lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced turkey and cranberry mayo! Then the next piece of toast, in the next section, put a fried egg, preferably with a runny yolk, but that's up to you, grilled bacon and melted cheese, then add the final piece of toast!

To make them in advance, or if you like all the fllings warm, make it in the same way, but with toast in the middle and the other two pieces just fresh bread, when your ready to eat it, spread the outsides with butter, and stick it in a sandwich press and cook till the bread is golden brown!

How to get an even layer of oil on homemade croutons?

I'm trying to make homemade croutons for a Caesar salad. Before toasting them in the oven, I've tried drizzling olive oil them, or throwing the bread cubes in a frying pan with olive oil and herbs. But the end result is that just the corners or little spots of the cubes soak up the oil, and not the rest. Restaurant/bought croutons have oil evenly distributed all over them, which gives them that slightly-fried texture that I'm looking for. Does anybody have any tips on how to do this? How to get an even layer of oil on homemade croutons?
hi there; why don't you try to putting the oil in a spray bottle and spray the croutons before baking them also sprinkle them with some parmesan cheese and garlic powder before baking..This may work for you it's worth a try...Good LuckHow to get an even layer of oil on homemade croutons?
Try putting the oil in a spray bottle and spraying it on or put the oil and croutons in a bad and shake them.
Use a zip lock bag. Best invention ever for coating something.
Have you tried using a spray? I make mine with a garlic spray. Partway through baking I stir them around with a spatula and hose them down again. Always good results.
put them in a plastic container with the oil.... and shake them up ....
Ziplock bag would work, container with a top mith turn the bread to crumbs. I would suggest just tossing it in a largebowl. . .no lid
buy a spray bottle, you can get one at walmart for a buck or so, and put your oil in it. spray away and toss.
I use 100% olive oil spay...you know the spray for your pans before cooking.
Put you bread crumbs into a large container with a lid (an ice cream pail works well). sprinkle with your seasonings, put the lid on and shake. Then heat your oil (about 30 secs in the microwave), then slowly drizzle on your bread. Shake again. Because the oil is hot, it is thinner and will coat your bread better. I do this al the time and it works like a charm! Enjoy, homemade croutons rock!!

How do you remove a layer of paint from a painted metal surface?

I need to remove some silver paint, from a paint marker pen, that was applied to a painted blue telescope tubeHow do you remove a layer of paint from a painted metal surface?
You might try different solvents. Such as carb cleaner or lacquer thinner. I'd try on a part you won't see when the telescope is fully assembled. If all else fails use a wet sand paper and re paint. The factory finish is usually a baked on type that lends itself well to cleaners. You might also think of using a green scrubby. Although this might dull the finish. You might then wish to recaot with a gloss or satin clear designed for metal. Good luck in your endeavor. How do you remove a layer of paint from a painted metal surface?
That'll be tough. I'd go with a small penknife or Xacto knife and chip/scrape it away slowly, and use rubbing alcohol for the remanents.

i cooled it properly and everything, what the heck happened? does it mean it didnt bake long enough or what? this bites. When i bake a circular layer cake, why does the top split open like the grand canyon?
If you have done the following things it shouldn't crack:

    1. when cooling, let it rest on it's bottom

    2. when cooled, trim off the rounded top.

    3. When setting it up (layering it) put the tops down

4 when icing the lower layer, make sure your icing isn't mounded up in the center.

It sounds like you might be baking your cake

at to high temperiture. Bake your cakes at 350*F. when the baking temperiture is to high the cake will dome and some times it will crack or look like a volcano on the top.

If the cake does dome cool upright in pan. then trim the dome off before puting the

probably just because there was a little more batter in that pan and it raised a little more, just use that one for the bottom layer with the crack facing down
When you make cake batter, you're only supposed to mix it long enough to combine the ingredients. Stirring by hand with a wooden spoon or a spatula is always the best way. Using an electric mixer is too much power. The more you mix, the more air you combine with your batter. When you bake, the air has to go somewhere, that's where your cracks come from,

I wouldn't deep fry it because you can't really seal the filling in and it would fall apart in your oil. You could crisp it in shallow oil in a skillet.

Why is there an organic layer in my tea?

I've noticed lately that when I'm drinking tea it often has a thin organic layer resting at the top. Does anyone know of any components in tea (black tea) that would produce that? I've checked for possible contaminants, but everything seems pretty clean. I drew it off the top once, and it does indeed mix with other non-polar solvents, so its likely organic.

Just thought maybe some of you organic chemistry wizards might have some insight on what it could be.Why is there an organic layer in my tea?
Likely just an oily type compounds from the actual tea leaves themselves. Much like the layer you see on soups with meat or chicken. Difference is simply plant oil versus meat oils (a.k.a. fat). Why is there an organic layer in my tea?
maybe you have been drinking organic tea

When making lasagna, do you layer the dish with the sauce first, or the noodle?

I've read a couple of recipe which call for starting with the sauce, then the noodle. How do you guys layer? When making lasagna, do you layer the dish with the sauce first, or the noodle?
sauceWhen making lasagna, do you layer the dish with the sauce first, or the noodle?
    sauce first
    Sauce then noodles.
    Sauce
Sauce, then the noodle, then the cheese. . . Thats the way I do it and it turns out great. . . .
To help with clean-up, I usually first spray the pan with a cooking spray, or margarine, or olive oil.

Then, I start with a couple of spoons of sauce %26amp; cheese so that the bottom layer is flavored from the top %26amp; bottom as all the other pasta.
If you put a thin layer of sauce at the bottom, your noodles won't scorch to the bottom of the pan, thus making it easier to scoop the slices out
Here is my recipe for making lasagna.

    ************Quick and easy Lasagna

    2 containers (15 oz.ea) ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (about 8 oz.)

    陆 cup grated Parmesan Cheese

    2 eggs

2 jars (1lb. 10oz each) Ragu Old World Style

    12 uncooked lasagna noodles

    1. Preheat oven to 375. In bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, 录 cup Parmesan cheese and eggs.

    2. In 13x9 inch baking dish, spread 1 cup pasta sauce. Layer 4 uncooked noodles, then 1 cup pasta sauce and 陆 of the ricotta cheese mixture; repeat. Top with remaining 4 uncooked noodles and 2 cups pasta sauce.

    3. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake 1 hour. Remove foil and sprinkle with remaining cheeses. Bake uncovered an additional 10 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with remaining pasta sauce, heated.

    * or use 1 jar (2 lbs. 13 oz..) Ragu Old World Style Pasta Sauce.

VARIATION: For a twist on classic鈥︹€? Add 1 lb. ground beef or sausage, cooked, to Pasta Sauce.

NOTE: Recipe can be halved. Bake in an 11x7 inch baking dish 1 hour. Continue as above, omitting last 10 minutes of baking.
    Sauce.

    Noodles, sauce, cheese, repeat.

(the noodle box usually has those directions on it !)
i prefer noodle- that way it's a base. when you put sauce over it, it will still get sauce on it.
When making lasagna, You definitely use the sauce first. Just enough to cover the bottom of the dish whether there is meat in the sauce or not! Personally I learned by simply following the recipe on the lasagna box. I am always amazed at how everyone always compliments the dish. The link attached uses a ';Sunday Ragu'; sauce, the recipe follows the lasagna recipe. You can use whatever sauce you like, homemade or from a jar. I use the jar and just spice it up myself. You can also find many other lasagna recipes on this site from the simple to the more advanced..good luck, enjoy
You need a little layer of sauce first- enough to cover the pan. You don鈥檛 want the noodle directly on the pan because it will burn.
definitely sauce because you dont want the noodle to stick to the pan.
Bechamel - pasta - mince cooked in tomato repeat!
    Noodle first
    ground beef, sauce, noddle
Sauce first so the bottom layer of noodles won't stick to the pan.
thin layer of sauce on the bottom...then the noodles. cheese, sauce noodles etc with a layer of sauce on top
