Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?

I layer blanket my horses but I'm in just interested in other peoples opinions. Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?
The denier of a blanket refers to the tightness of the weave of the nylon outer shell on the blanket.

You could blanket with one with a higher fill count. They are thicker and heavier and provide more insulation.

However layering the blankets works really well. You can make your first layer an absorbent one to wick the moisture away from the skin and then something waterproof over that. It would also provide great insulation between the blankets.

If your horse does not mind the double layer I would stick to that if it works well for you.

Sometimes mine tend to get to hot in the heavy balnkets and sweat and I think something lighter would be better. Is it better to layer blanket your horses for the winter or just blanket with one high denier blanket?
I always thought that it was better to layer blankets rather than just having one heavy one on. That way, you can take layers off in responsive to temperature fluctuations. Also, the air betweent he layers stays warmer allowing for the horse to stay warmer. Also, if the top layer gets wet or really dirty, you can just remove the one and clean/dry it and the horse still has some protection. Just my humble opinion!
