I dont want to throw any of the cake away. I have leveled the layer cake and now I have to 2 tops to the cakes and I want to use it, any ideas? After I level off my layer cake, what should I do with the excess cake?
I bake cakes in my home for a living and every week I have tons of left over cake from the tops I have leveled off. I wrap them up in saran wrap and then put them into large airtight tupperware containers. It doesn't matter what if they are chocolate or vanilla cake as they will all be used together later. Once I have enough, (you decide when you have enough), I then thaw it out and throw it all into a large stainless steel bowl. Crumble the caketops into small peices using your hands. Then add flavouring of your choice (vanilla-, mint-, rum- or almond extract) and enough icing (again your choice in flavours), and perserves to moisten the caketops enough that they will hold their shape. (You want it to be similar in texture as you would ground beef when making homemade burgers). Using your hands, roll small amounts into balls. Next roll balls into any garnish you wish - cocoa powder, coconut, chocolate sprinkles, colored sprinkles, chopped nuts or powdered sugar and you have created delicious cake truffles! Purchase mini cupcake papers and some fancy boxes from the dollar store and you have a great gift for Christmas, Valentines Day, birthdays or just because days! Good luck and enjoy! After I level off my layer cake, what should I do with the excess cake?
EAT IT!!! But don't share it with anyone... It ruins the excitement!
Or cube it and use it as a filling in a fruit trifle. Fold the cake pieces into some whipped cream or whipped topping (Cool-Whip) and then layer with fresh fruit. Great for fresh strawberries, peaches, or bananas.
Crumble it up and sprinkle on teh cake after you frost it. It's a pretty way to use the leftovers....
if its alot, eat it w/ friends, if its not so much eat it by yourself!
spread some cream cheese on it an eat it
Break up the cake to fit in small bowls. Layer whipped cream, vanilla pudding, and strawberries or peaches, layer again. Yum! And pretty too!
If you had me living in your house, your excess cake disposal needs would be taken care of.
And I wouldn't waste a crumb!
if its frosting you can put it on crackers and eat it if its cake mix then you can make cup cakes
eat it...with butter....
in the past I have crumbled it up and tossed it outside for the birds to nibble on.
I would put it in the freezer and add it to ice cream for another night when u have a sweet tooth.
Put some whipped cream %26amp; strawberries on the pieces .... use them as the base for a small trifle ... let it harden and use the crumbs for a cookie crust (keep them in baggies) ... dip pieces into melted chocolate and eat
Make a trifle-like dish.
Add some strawberries and whipped cream and have it for a treat.
mix them with frosting and eat them, yum!
eat it , bake it again in the oven , like biscotti , till it gets crispy . great addition to ice cream , cereal , oatmeal , or yogurt . adds a nice contrast to softer snacks
